About me

You may be wondering who I am.

I spin gold from the straw at hand; I’m a business writer, editor, thinker, blogger, storyteller, believer in the impossible, darer, re-inventor, idea starter, learner and searcher for the perfect pencil case.

I love sharing what I know, being a sounding board  and am obsessed with wordplay.

I am a writer and marketer: I help businesses make money using words. By combining the science of marketing with the art of storytelling, I develop persuasive communications.

Why? Because everything has a story. And a good story moves you. It can inspire you to remember, to act, to buy.

My name is Di Mace and my background includes marketing, corporate and magazine work; across business, creative and marketing writing.  As a freelance copywriter I specialise in the power of the written word. I have more than twenty years’ experience in marcom and corporate communications that need to do a job – to sell something. That ‘thing’ may be a product, idea, service, person or a company that just wants to make things happen.

My writing helps those who need to tell certain messages about their organisation, sell their product or service or to simply communicate a story to their customers.

Businesses of all sizes (from one-person entrepreneurial pursuits to multi-national companies and everything in-between), as well as individuals, hire me for a variety of writing projects, editing, copywriting, proofreading, and marketing assignments. I help, write and craft words for their needs. The rest of the time, I write under my own name offline for magazines and online for websites and blogs. Whether you need something written, edited, polished, revised, organised, analysed or brainstormed I can help.

Clients have found me generous with my knowledge (read obsession), reliable, professional, trustworthy and strategic.  I’m not ‘precious’ about my work. I want every project to be a success.

Why blog?

I love writing about things that get people’s minds working; things that get them thinking, questioning, ruminating (love that word) and through that, slowly getting inside their heads. And the purpose of that would be to help people work out how to really get to know their customers (on and offline), and build a relationship with them through persuasive content.

In the very beginning I wanted to keep up with my digital-native kids – but that was quickly overtaken by the buzz of  learning a new challenge. I had also decided to test my resolve that it’s the words that matter most, not the platform – I’ve now laid that one to rest!

What’s the blog about?

Most of all, this blog is designed to share with others my experience in branding, marketing and commercial writing.

It focuses on persuasive writing that sells  – the craft and business of writing and marketing.

In short, it’s designed to give you the ‘how-to’ of building a strong back-story for your brand to create loyal followers. That back-story could be in print, online or in person – whatever way works best for the lovers of your brand or product. That’s my forte and I’m sure someone else out there can benefit from it … *she says in a hopeful voice.*

Through this blog I’ve made new contacts, friends and been able to ‘spin’ my yarn, weave those threads together and tell my story about things … and work. And stuff.

About my obsession

Words and marketing are my passion; and it’s my OBSESSION to create ideas, words and brands that really work. I can’t help myself.

I can’t help pondering my latest writing project no matter where I am . . . just because I’m not at my desk or doing ‘designated’ brainstorming doesn’t mean I can stop it. And I wouldn’t want to, even if I could.

That obsession is your gain. You don’t get charged for that part.  Just the parts done at the desk . . .

Where can you find me?

Word Swords is based in Sydney, Australia. However with the convenience of the internet (which you’re enjoying right now) distance isn’t a problem, as it makes teamwork a snap. There’s no reason why we can’t help you with your storytelling and copy writing needs – wherever you are in Australia or overseas.

In this age of fast-paced communication where everyone is trying to squeeze more hours out of the day, I’ve found in many cases that it is more efficient to work using electronic communications media such as phone, fax, email and instant messaging. In fact I’ve successfully serviced clients Australia-wide using these methods.
